Report on Conference Call re Water Situation

Friends

I was able to get on conference call today set up by Gov Tomblin's office, with Dr Letitia Tierney and General Hoyer.

Dr Tierney was recently appointed Commissioner of the Bureau for Public Health and State Health Officer.

Dr Tierney is an MD physician and an attorney. She grew up and lives in Charleston with her entire family. She feels the science is good, that the water is safe, despite the smell.

Apparently the smell is added because the toxic chemicals are odorless. The smell can be there while the toxic chemicals are at or below what they are considering to be safe levels.

Dr Tierney said she is using the water at home fully, including drinking it.

I was able to ask her if the water at her house had a bad oder, she said it did. She is trusting the science of it, and still feels it is safe to drink, and she said she is drinking it and cooking with it, just as normal.

Gen Hoyer's team has done almost 900 completed tests. The tests are getting better and better and have been below the level considered below dangerous for several day (since the flushing began).

I wanted to pass this on. Dr Tierney's testimony was especially compelling to my ears.

Hope this helps in your decision making process of how to keep you and your family healthy!

Please do what you think is best!

Live Well Charlie West

Alliance launches new wellness campaign

Do you want to make good on your New Year’s health resolutions?

Live Well Charlie West, a Charleston Area Alliance program, is a month-long campaign dedicated to starting the workplace wellness conversation and providing connectivity to wellness-related resources to employ at your worksite.

The program launched Sunday at the City of Charleston's Winter Series walk/run event in Kanawha City. Check out news stories from the launch HERE and HERE

A healthy employee is vitally important to the workplace as a whole and has a significant impact on an employer’s bottom line.

Workplace wellness is a proven strategy to improve worker productivity and reduce costs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that for every $1 spent on workplace wellness, a company saves $3 to $6.

If you’re an employee or employer, there are many ways to get involved with the campaign.

Click HERE for more information, including a calendar of events (subject to small changes).

Check out what's on tap this week for Live Well Charlie West:
  • This Wednesday, the first SUCCESStrategies lunch and learn titled "The Cost of Mental Health," will be held from 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m. at the Alliance. The event will feature local experts discussing ways to connect regional resources to colleagues and employees in promoting mental wellness. The cost to attend is $5. To register to attend, click HERE.
  • Show your fellow Charlestonians what you're having for a healthy lunch. Snap a picture, post it on Facebook and Twitter and tag it with #cwveats.
  • Learn the proper way to dispose of unused medicines by following the Facebook and Twitter pages of "Kanawha Valley Communities that Care."
  • Take a second to talk about a moment or person that has changed your life for the better.
