Was the Dent Dinner Fun?

Thdent_2010is year's Dent Dinner was a huge success! The good news is that for the first time ever, we were oversold! The bad news is the same thing: we were oversold! A big that you for the patience of everyone as we found enough seating! And was it funny? "Row, row, row your boat will never be the same!"

Sky Kershner on Honesty
Sky Kershner 2010 6
Jeff Brown has certainly picked an intriguing title for his communication workshop in November! Honesty seems to be something many of us struggle with, especially when we are trying to balance this value with that of caring. "I could never tell her that!" I heard a husband say recently.

Intimacy is so connected with letting another person know who I really am. Are there ways to tell the harder truths about ourselves and do it in a way that preserves and even strengthens our relationships?  If you are not sure, please consider joining us for the communication workshop "Adventures in Honesty" Nov 12-13.

Adventures in Honesty and Empathy:

A Compassionate Nonviolent Communication (NVC)
training in Charleston, WV (Nov. 12-13, 2010)

What is Compassionate or Nonviolent Communication (NVC)?

two hands grasping

Web Bug from spacer.gif NVC is both a spiritual practice that helps us see our common humanity, and a concrete set of skills which help us to live more peacefully. These skills apply to thought, language, and using our power in a way that honors everyone's needs.

Web Bug from spacer.gif NVC is a learnable process for creating emotional freedom, self-acceptance, inner peace, and fulfilling relationships. It involves expressing ourselves honestly, listening with empathy, and developing a more compassionate inner relationship.

Web Bug from spacer.gif People around the world are using NVC skills to transform conflict, create harmony in their relationships, and build a world where everyone's needs are honored through compassionate giving, and without the use of coercion or violence.

What are the benefits of NVC?

2 people listening to each other

Web Bug from spacer.gif NVC helps people to:

* speak in a way that inspires compassion and understanding.

* initiate difficult conversations with more ease and confidence.

* remain centered and peaceful while hearing difficult messages.

* express anger fully, safely and respectfully - yet powerfully.

* shift patterns of thinking that lead to depression, guilt, shame.

* enliven yourself by expressing and receiving gratitude.

* translate criticism, judgments and blame into life-serving messages.

* resolve long-standing conflicts and heal painful relationships.

* inspire others to change their behavior willingly.

Why is Honesty and Empathy important in relationships?

Family walking

Web Bug from spacer.gif While most of us are taught from an early age to be "nice people", this has tragic consequences on our self-esteem: depression, resentment, a loss of meaning, and angry outbursts after we have withheld our truth long enough for the pressure to boil over.

Web Bug from spacer.gif And yet, many of us avoid honest self-expression because our attempts to do so in the past have resulted in stimulating anger or upset in the people closest to us.

Web Bug from spacer.gif Compassionate Communication shows us how to be radically honest with people in a way that generates connection and positive energy in our relationships, rather than alienating them.

Web Bug from spacer.gif In this training session, you will learn the art of initiating difficult conversations, and eventually learning to enjoy them...and how to never give up, or give in, on your needs or core values again.
